consolidators on an unrelenting quest for new brands to add to
their portfolio, independent manufacturers are operating in an
environment that offers unparalleled financial opportunities and
the chance to move into the big leagues quickly.
Upper management
of these apparel consolidators comment frequently on how "smaller
brands must outsource and pay for things that they can do internally
at a much lower cost." They report that department store
chains constantly pressure them to be cheaper, faster, and support
their brands with national advertising. But they as they are quick
to point out; only they have the leverage with retailers to deal
with these issues effectively.
